Call for Concepts (Project Ideas)
Interventions to Enhance Social Inclusion of Older Adults with Dementia in Saskatchewan is a five year project funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program (Employment and Social Development Canada) that will fund up to four organizations in Yorkton and surrounding communities to deliver services that support greater social inclusion of older adults living with dementia and their care partners. The project is being conducted through the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU), a research centre at the universities of Regina and Saskatchewan. Dr. Bonnie Jeffery, a professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Regina’s Prince Albert Campus is leading the project, along with team members Dr. Tom McIntosh, professor in the Department of Politics and International Studies, and Dr. Nuelle Novik, associate professor in the Faculty of Social Work.
Starting in the fall of 2020 and extending over the next four years, local organizations and businesses will be funded to implement individual, community and organizational level interventions that enhance social inclusion of older adults with dementia living in Yorkton and surrounding communities. Projects will focus on: improving public awareness to address issues of stigma and social isolation; supporting social inclusion for those with dementia and their care partners; and improving the availability and appropriateness of community supports for people affected by dementia.
Organizations and businesses in Yorkton and surrounding communities are invited to apply for project funding of approximately $100,000 per year. Selected organizations from different sectors will work together to build a Collective Impact approach based on their shared vision. The successful organizations will be asked to develop a more detailed budget and project plan.
Applications must be submitted by the representative of an organization or business located in Yorkton, Saskatchewan or a surrounding community. Projects will take place over one to four years. Start dates may be delayed due to COVID-19.
